On Wednesday, there was a major outage at Meta, causing brief downtime for WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

Thousands of app users experienced issues accessing three sites. Many took to social media to voice grievances.

Meta’s status site indicated that most issues were resolved. The company hasn’t responded to a request for comment yet.

The issues started at approximately 6:00 PM British Summer Time (2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday.

The website performance monitor, Downdetector UK, reported 82,000 issues with WhatsApp at 18:25, but the problem was mostly resolved an hour later.

At 18:20, nearly 3,700 Instagram users reported outages that lasted for a few hours.

Facebook users reported 1,840 outages at 18:23.The United States also experienced issues with Instagram, affecting around 5,000 people. At its peak, approximately 24,000 WhatsApp users faced problems as well, not just in the UK.

WhatsApp announced on X that they are currently working to resolve the issues people are experiencing and restore full functionality as soon as possible.

Nearly 3,500 users in India and over 7,000 in Brazil reported issues with the platform, as per Downdetector.

In March, Facebook and Instagram experienced a global outage for over two hours. This technical issue affected hundreds of thousands of users. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has a combined total of 3.19 billion daily active users across all of its apps, including Threads.
